The small jazz group, joined by saxophone legend Mornington Lockett, performing The Chicken at the Bull’s Head in May.

Some very good playing today at the Bull’s Head, especially in the second set. Excellent work fellas. I thought that the trombones were especially good today - making a really big noise and some great ensemble work adding a huge amount to the Band. Lovely for Ben to make his Bull’s Head debut and also for the soprano saxophone to make an appearance.

Great that we were able to play an entirely different set last night at the School. That is more than three hours of music played over the weekend, with plenty to spare. The Band’s repertoire is huge now. And great that the trumpets made their first outing without help - I thought you did very well.

A big weekend - thanks for working so hard. Now we have to think about how to approach the National Festival of Music for Youth. We need to make a real IMPACT! If we don’t get to the final I will be furious! How about getting Ben to sing?

Well done today at the Bull’s Head. Was a good show on the whole - a few scrappy moments but some good playing overall, especially the second half.

Hard work for the Big Band Evening - lots of vocals to get through - and then finally a couple of weeks when we can get stuck into some serious repertoire. I want to look at Florence’s Carmellos on the Highway, Bill Bailey, Wind Machine, Chicago Bound, Critical Mass……there is so much to get through. Oh, and I’ve got a new Mingus Big Band Chart on the way that is going to be a classic.
