In March 2010 the Band commissioned its fourth chart, from leading American jazz composer, Big Band leader and educationalist, Jeff Jarvis. The chart was given its first performance in the Final of the National Festival of Music For Youth at the Birmingham Conservatoire in July 2010.
Written in a shuffle style, the chart opens with chordal brass, saxophones adding contrapuntal figues, over a dominant pedal. The main theme then opens out before open solos lead into a difficult saxophone soli section, played without the rhythm section. The entire band join back in and the main them returns, there is a shift of key and a spectacular ending, rock out ending that illustrates the character of the song’s title perfectly.
The Chart is published by Kendor Music and can be ordered here. An sample recording is also available.
